MilCoG is running the Board Game Ballroom at MidWinter Game Convention!
Update 12-31-2011
The MilCoG Board Game Ballroom will have most of the MilCoG library available for checkout. The MilCoG booth will have a staff of 6 or more gamers to help with all your board gaming needs, including demoing or teaching games you are interested in. The room isn’t the largest so we aren't going to have a lot of games that take up tons of space or will hog table space for extended periods of time but some special events we are having include:
The Hoopla Gaming Station
Ascension Tournament is added to the schedule for Saturday. There will be three rounds; AM, mid-day, and PM. The top two players will go head-to-head for the grand prize.
Featuring Rallyman (the best racing game ever) contest. There will be several sets of Rallyman comined for one large set with multiple races happening at the same time. Prize for the best total time accumulated through all the courses!
Polyhedral Underground's Live Action Elk-fest
GIANT Jenga
XBox Kinect Demos
Big Werewolf Games
Chris's Silent Game Auction
BGG Math Trade
The infamous MilCoG BIG Raffle
Bob from Chimera’s ding-and-dent sale table
There is no “event grid” this time; we are working on a “soft reservation” system which will allow con-goers the ability to reserve games for certain times, on the fly, and allow others to add themselves to potential events until the events run.
MidWinter is the area’s largest gaming convention and though it is based on larps it is making efforts to become a full-fledged gaming convention. We are super excited to be partnered with MidWinter and share the same vision as they do – to bring a regional sized convention to Milwaukee! This is the 12th year they have been operating and the attendance has been good enough for them to upgrade their space to the Hyatt Regency Center in downtown Milwaukee. Last year’s attendance was over 500 people. We are hoping for closer to 1000 attendees this year which is a threshold to attract the interest of industry leaders and main players in the gaming industry.
Here are just some of the things to do / see at the con….
There are a lot of larps, including some very well produced ones with pre-generated characters for first timers (the Cthulhu one is produced by a professional company that puts on such events complete with props and costumes and looks particularly fun).
There will be several sanctioned Magic the Gathering tournaments put on by a game company out of Chicago, Xtreme Games.
There is a Gothic Fashion Show on Saturday in the atrium.
StarKid Productions which is described as a live performance entertainment company of writers, actors, directors, designers and producers will have an event.
The vendor room has between 15 - 20 vendors of varying types.
There are on-site concessions provided by the hotel and food carry-ins are permitted if you wish to visit any of the restaurants in the area. The Polaris (the rotating restaurant atop the hotel overlooking the city) is reserved for the Vampire larp on Friday night (that might be a cool one to sign up for).
The convention has reserved the entire first floor conference space, the 1st floor bar, and the entire 2nd floor conference space; atrium, bar, and ballrooms (with the exception of 1 ballroom Saturday night).
Our room rate at the Hyatt is $99/night for up to 4 people per room. Call to make a reservation under room block “Midwinter Gaming Convention” or use the PassKey online system at https://resweb.passke.... Thursday night is sold out, but there are still rooms left for Friday & Saturday. Be sure to book yours soon!

Midwinter Gaming Convention wants to give back, but to do so we need your help! We are hosting a clothing drive during the convention! January is a month when so many people are still in need, and holiday giving is over. Let’s break that trend! Throw an extra piece of clothing in your suitcase and give to a great cause!
